In spite of this increased access to information, has not yet been extensively studied the impact that exposure to the media has on health.
Given that the majority of the information that is transmitted in the media is negative, and that before the perception of a threat, either actual or implied, the brain activates the stress system, which leads to the secretion of the hormone cortisol, in a recent study the researchers was designed to determine the reaction that produce the negative news in healthy people.
The researchers found that while reading the news not neutral or negative has led to a significant increase in cortisol levels in both men and women, specifically among the women, exposure to the negative news, resulted in a significant increase in the physiologic reactivity to a stressor later.
This means that women are more susceptible to the negative news and have, in addition, a greater memory of such news that the men, resulting in stress.
