What's a selfie?

The selfie is as old as the internet, is nothing but the self-portrait. It is one photo that is done by yourself, either by mobile phone (most common today) or through a digital camera (common some years ago). Surely the concept was born more like the need for a quick photo for a profile of internet (twitter, facebook, google+) rather than something focused on the concept of the ego, which is what it has evolved to today. Even some mobile terminals (such as the Nokia 5070) had a small convex mirror on the back for easier self-portrait as phones back then had only the back camera.
Today it is very fashionable, rather than their number of examples in social networks (which probably has not changed in percentage) for the use by celebrities from Barack Obama (and Obama's daughters) to Pope Francisco, through all kinds of celebrities (actors, singers, models, ...).
The selfie is and will exist as long as there is someone who wants to communicate. It is almost as classic as classic photos of cats in the communicative language element in internet.
